The Reservoir Dogs actor was taking part in an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Reddit when a fan asked him if he’d consider playing the Time Lord when Capaldi’s interpretation regenerates.
They said: ”Mr Roth. Would you please, please, please be the next Doctor?"
"Ok. If this is the casting director, I'm all for it,” he gamely replied.
The star would presumably be keen to step into a project that would put his recent FIFA drama United Passions out of people’s memories.
The movie, based on Sepp Blatter, was a monumental bomb at the box office and took only $607 on its opening weekend in the US.
Its release unintentionally co-incided with the corruption scandal that tarnished the reputations of Blatter and other FIFA officials.
Roth wrote: “The film is awful (can't say that because I haven't seen it) I hated doing it, it was the wrong film but for the right reasons. I had two kids in college so I had to make a decision and it was probably poorly judged, but once you make that decision you have to follow through.
“It's a hard road, being in something you don't want to do, but I'm glad I did it for my family
