Peter Capaldi is leaving Doctor Who

by Chris Daly on January 26, 2016

Peter Capaldi is leaving Doctor Who to give the series a “fresh start.” The 57-year-old actor said he wants to give Chris Chibnall a chance to choose his own Time Lord, according to the Mirror. The move came after it was announced that Steven Moffat is also stepping down as writer for the BBC hit.

BBC bosses are reportedly expecting the 12th Doctor to leave with Moffat in 2017. Apparently, Chibnall thought he was given the chance to choose his own Time Lord when he became new chief in series 11. While that didn’t pan out, he could get his chance now. According to a BBC source, the bosses appreciate what Peter contributed to the role.

However, some of them seemingly believe that it would “make sense” if they gave Chibnall a chance to recruit an actor that he would want to play the Doctor. “They hope he will be able to find someone who can have the same impact as Matt Smith did when Steven Moffat kicked off his run as executive producer,” the source added. It looks like Capaldi had known for some time that he might need to leave the show. The Scottish actor said last month that 2016 could be his final year playing the Doctor and that he’s “terrified” of the possibility. He added that he loves Doctor Who but “it can be an insular world and I do want to do other things. There will come a time when this is over. But I knew that when I started.”

Capaldi’s run as the Time Lord might be over and he might be afraid of making a fresh start in another series, but with his talent and a list of awards under his belt, I have no doubt he won’t be having a hard time at all.

“Peter did a very poor job as the doctor, tho in fairness I don’t think he wrote the script, but the doctor isn’t supposed to change personalities, he just gets a new body.”

Have you even watched this show? Every single Doctor has had his own unique personality.

“Capaldi is the best Doctor since Tom Baker”.

While Tom Baker, by far, is the best doctor of the bunch, Capaldi isn’t even a close second. Baker, Tennant, Troughton, Matt Smith are my top 4, in that order. 5 are interchangeable for 5-9 (Capaldi is in this mix), and two are just horrible and deserve to be at the bottom.

Until it’s official and posted on the BBC Dr Who Web site, don’t believe any of it. I don’t know how big a fan David is, but, yes the Doctor’s personality changes aswell as his body, or it has done for the last 50 years anyway. Troughton was different to Hartnell and Smith was different to Tennant. Capaldi is the best Doctor since Tom Baker in my opinion.

This is rubbish. Capaldi’s brilliant and isn’t leaving.

Peter was great and will missed. How about Father Browns Mark Williams as the new Doctor?

Moffat gone AND he’s taking that sorry "I’m finally getting to fuffil my dream of being a 1990’s douche " hack. His " portral" has been a whole lot about turning the Doctor into Peter Capaldi and nothing about Peter Capaldi learning to become the Doctor. Now Moffat can spend all his time on Sherlock and not having to give his buddy a job while holding his nose at his involvement in one of the greatest SCI FY \Fantasy shows ever.

According to the Mirror. What a joke! The only thing Peter has said on record is that it’s insulting that everyone keeps asking when he’s going to leave and drivel like this is going to cause him to actually go! Until I hear it from a credible source, I won’t believe a thing!

Very sad indeed i loved peter as the doctor. I wished they kept him for one more season

by Andy on February 12, 2016

Capaldi said that, eh? Where’s your quote?

Peter is one of the best doctors of all time

I think Peter has done a wonderful job with the Doctor. I would like to suggest however that Ioan Gruffold would be a great choice to replace.

You’d think a truly good writer could work magic with the acts they have, guess he’s not as good as he thinks he is with a want it may attitude of I want my own doctor.

this is fake as hell

Listen you all mean ones don’t be weaping angels

If Peter Capaldi is leaving it will be announced by the BBC via a press release. The fact that you’ve written this article using The Mirror as your source is absolutely ridiculous.

I, too, have enjoyed the Doctor since the days of Tom Baker, and was overjoyed to see him come together with Matt, David, and John at the end of that memorable 3-Doctor episode! I have mourned the “end” of each Doctor at the regeneration of the new entity; I have learned the strengths and weaknesses each actor brings to the role, and have been the same about the “changing of the guard” with each Companion. Peter I recall from the episode in Pompeii; liked him then, like him as the Doctor. I will accept this report when I see it directly from the BBC, not before.

by John Smith on January 27, 2016

Goodbye, Peter Capaldi. I will miss you…, You were one of the best doctors I ever saw in the series, I wish you could stay more, I mean, David Tennant and Matt smith did have their own time to play in the series, but you only played in two…, I am so sad to hear that you are leaving Doctor Who. I wish you could stay longer…

By the way, I wish you good luck with your new series, I know you will do well. You are one of the best actors I ever seen after Matt Smith. c:

Who writes this garbagE? It doesn’t make any actual sense when you read it.

Capaldi may well be leaving after series 10, but it’s clearl this “article” is utter nonsensical.

by Don Ervin on January 26, 2016

This is according to The Mirror… A notoriously BAD place to get accurate news. Don’t believe it until the Beeb announces it…

So in other words it seems that Peter was pretty much pressured into leaving Doctor Who by behind the scenes crap going on with the BBC. I’ve watched Doctor Who since I was 16 when it first started airing on PBS television in the U.S. back in 1979. Peter Capaldi is the only Doctor that was a good as Tom Baker to me,though Peter’s Doctor was someone that I really could personally identify with, even more than Tom Baker. Not just due to being close to Peter’s age but because of his no nonsense take no B.S. mannerisms. This is really crappy news.
